Flexible endoscopic evaluation of swallowing (FEES) is an imaging and therefore objective procedure for assessing swallowing disorders. In addition to the effectiveness and safety of the swallowing act, various food consistencies are tested and therapeutic maneuvers are tried out during the transnasal examination. The German Society for Neurology (DGN) and the German Stroke Society (DSG) published a curriculum in 2014 "... to optimize and formalize training in endoscopic dysphagia diagnostics. (...) Since 2016, the German Society for Geriatrics (DGG) in terms of content and organization of the curriculum."

The 3-day FEES Basic course is based on the DGN curriculum and includes 24 hours of theory and practical training on a head model and on the partner.
